We all value different things in life and the thing I value most is my time. I don’t take it for granted, I don’t abuse it or misuse it. Very early on I realized that my time was one thing I could never buy or replace; from that moment it had my utmost respect. No matter what your purpose is; being kind and intentional with your time is extremely important for your success and quality of life.
Since I run a heart centered business and care for my 20-month and 8-month old daily, time can either be my best friend or straight-up my worst enemy! Have you checked in with your relationship with time lately? Here’s a glimpse into my relationship with time that you might find helpful.
1.Treat Time Like Your Best Friend
So often we treat time like it’s disposable. We don’t accept it into our lives as a positive force. But if you treat time like a loving friend, the relationship automatically shifts for the better. All of a sudden your approach becomes loving, forgiving, supportive, and respectful. What would change for you if you treated your time with those same qualities? Think about the things that currently get your time and attention, are they aligned with your big picture purpose and goals?
To help improve your relationship with time, begin your day with a gratitude prayer, honor the day by thanking each and every hour gifted to you. You’ll find that throughout the day as things don’t always go as planned (like my days with two kids under two) you’ll have more compassion and forgiveness toward yourself.
In addition, as you begin to say negative things like, “I don’t have time, there’s never enough hours in the day, I can’t keep up!” Stop. Take a deep breath…and sloooowly exhale. Practice this often as you work to change your personal time narrative.
2. Be Intentional With Your Time
Part of learning to respect your time comes in the form of intention. We live in a society that makes it very easy to be distracted. The internet can be a powerful tool, but it can also be a giant black hole to your productivity if you aren’t careful. One of the best ways to combat the distractions is to focus on intention. After your gratitude prayer, take a few minutes and set your intention for the day. This could be heart centered: I want to be more loving to myself as I reestablish my relationship with time. It can also be head centered: I have 8 hours of intentional time, I will work on my relationship with time for 1 hour today. In 5 minutes or less, try on each intention to see how they feel in your head, heart, and body. This practice not only maximizes your intentions, it makes you mentally, physically, spiritually connected to everything you do. The impact this shift will make in your life and business is astounding.
3. Approach Time With an Abundance Mindset, Not Scarcity
We all have a certain amount of time in a day, but don’t dwell on it. Remember, stop! Take a deep breath and exhale. Replace the negative thoughts with: I have all that I need to accomplish today’s intention. The moment our thoughts shift to a lower vibrational frequency, we diminish our brain’s capacity to problem solve. Instead of dwelling, focus on thoughts of abundance to give you the boost of energy you need in moments of struggle.
4. Outsource to Use Your Time More Wisely
There comes a point in everyone’s life where your business needs outmatch the resources you have while flying solo. When you hit that point, consider how you can use your time more wisely. Stop trying to do it all; does it make sense to keep trying to fit it all in, or would it help you breathe easier and accomplish more if you outsourced some of the daily tasks to focus on what you love most and where you bring the most value? Outsourcing can be a great, cost-effective way to continue building your business and simplifying your life by bringing in a team you can trust.
